What is Family Systems Therapy
Dr. Schwartz specializes in therapy from a Bowen Family Systems perspective, a non-pathologizing, scientifically based understanding of human behavior grounded in evolutionary theory and decades of research on human families. It is a broad framework for thinking about human beings as interconnected and understanding the ways that this interconnectivity shapes individual biology, feelings, and behavior.
Who is it for
Family systems therapy can involve one or many members of a family. Any motivated person can work on themselves and this benefits the individual and the people connected to them. Dr. Schwartz works with clients facing a wide range of issues such as anxiety, depression, emotional/behavioral issues in children and teens, parenting issues, marital and relationship difficulty, trauma, and challenges with life transitions. Clients begin to make meaningful changes as they learn to observe a wider range of variables impacting their actions and focus on the ones they have control over.
